Maranatha Choir was founded in 1972 by Carlton and Shirley Onderdonk and the late Carroll P. and Mary Kelly. The choir chose the name “Maranatha,” meaning “come Lord Jesus” in Aramaic. This music ministry has touched well over 1,000 young people since its inception..
Many of our Gospel Choir members participated in the Maranatha Touring and/or Second Generation Choirs when they were youth. Some of our members have children currently singing with one of these choirs. The love this family of choirs so openly shares makes it an “experience of a lifetime,” which is why so many have come back to be a part of the Gospel Choir.
Maranatha Gospel Choir represents twenty-five congregations from King George to Culpeper and Richmond to Chesapeake, Virginia. These congregations are comprised of seven different denominations with the sole purpose of sharing God’s love with those who need to hear the message of eternal Life.
2008 was the Gospel Choir’s inaugural year. If you are interested in finding out how to become a member of our choir, or any of the Maranatha Choirs, please email your inquiries to Darla Burton/Gospel Choir President or send a request for more information via our contact form.
